OMAHA, Neb. — The Creighton Volleyball team earned its best ranking in program history when it bumped up to sixth in the AVCA/Taraflex Top 25 Coaches poll that was released on Monday, Sept. 23.  The three-spot climb comes after the Bluejays posted back-to-back Top 10 wins for the first time in program history last weekend in Lawrence, Kan., with victories over then-No. 6 Purdue (3-1) and then-No. 10 Kansas (3-0) to win the Jayhawk Classic.

It’s the 24th time overall that Creighton has been ranked in the Top 10. CU’s previous best ranking in program history had been No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017. This is the 13th straight campaign that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25.

The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 51 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 120 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 128 times in program history, which ranks tied for 41st-most all-time. Creighton is 210-47 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.

Five of Creighton’s 2024 opponents are ranked in this week’s poll. The Bluejays have already beaten then-No. 20 (and current No. 20) USC on Sept. 5th, and lost five-set road matches at then-No. 5 (and current No. 2) Nebraska (Sept. 10) and then-No. 4 (and current No. 5) Louisville (Sept. 15). CU also went to Lawrence, Kan., where it beat then-No. 6 (and current No. 10) Purdue (Sept. 20) as well as then-No. 10 (and current No. 9)  Kansas (Sept. 21). BIG EAST rival Marquette is among those teams also receiving votes.

The top five in this week’s poll consists of Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Stanford, Penn State and Louisville.

The Bluejays are also ranked No. 6 in the initial VolleyballMag Super 16 Media Poll of the season.

Creighton returns to the court with three home matches to open BIG EAST play, a stretch that starts on Friday at 6 p.m. against Providence.
