Palo Alto, Calif. — Creighton Baseball forced to settle for a series win during its California trip as the Bluejays dropped the series finale at Stanford 6-3 on Monday, March 25.

The loss moved the Bluejays to 17-4 on the season, while Stanford climbed to 10-11.

The Sunday starters, Jack Pineau (Creighton) and Joey Volchko (Stanford) locked up the offenses for the first three innings, before the Cardinal pushed across a run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead.

Creighton answered quickly with three runs in the third as Tate Gillen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game at 1-1, then Teddy Deters laced a two-run single through the left side to make it 3-1.

Stanford responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, including a two-run single by Temo Becerra. The Cardinal tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth to secure the win.

Five Bluejays closed the game with a hit, including Deters two-run single in the fifth.

Stanford reliever Trevor Moore picked up the win (2-0), limiting Creighton to one run on two hits over three innings, while Bluejay reliever Casey Trapp took the loss (1-1). Trapp allowed one run on one hit in one-third of an inning.

Creighton returns to the diamond in another tough road series next weekend as the Bluejays travel to Charleston Southern. The first game is set for Friday, March 29th at 4:00 p.m. (CT)
