Creighton Baseball Drops Series Opener to Georgetown, 10-2

Omaha, Neb. — Forced to try to play a doubleheader today, Creighton Baseball dropped the series opening game to Georgetown by a 10-2 score on Saturday, April 27. The second game was suspended in the bottom of the eighth with the Bluejays trailing 3-2.

The loss moved the Bluejays to 30-10 overall and 4-6 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown moved to 28-13 on the season and 9-4 in conference play.

The Hoyas jumped out to a 2-0 lead with solo home runs from Christian Ficca in the first and Owen Carapellotti in the second. Georgetown added two more runs in the third and five in the fourth.

Creighton’s two runs came on a two-run triple from Nolan Sailors in the bottom of the fifth.

Malakai Vetock picked up the loss (3-2), allowing seven runs (five earned) in 3.1 innings, while Georgetown starter Cody Bowker claimed the win 4-1. Bowker limited the Bluejays to two runs on four hits over six innings. Closer Kai Leckszas earned his fifth save of the season with three scoreless frames.

Creighton and Georgetown will finish the second game and play the series finale on Sunday, April 28.
