Chevalier, Harnly claim GPAC Player of the Week honors

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – After a big Homecoming Weekend by the Morningside University football team, two football players claimed Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.

Quarterback Zack Chevalier was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Laken Harnly was voted Special Teams Player of the Week.

Chevalier threw for 441 passing yards and was 28-for-40 on Saturday during the 52-7 win over Hastings, and he threw for four touchdowns. His longest completion was 57 yards.

The junior quarterback from Santa Clarita, California, has had four games this season where he’s thrown over 400 yards. He has 2,428 yards over six games.

Harnly, meanwhile, gave Morningside its first special teams touchdown this week with a 73-yard punt return. That touchdown came with 12 minutes, 13 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Harnly, a senior from Bellevue, Neb., has 137 punt return yards on 11 attempts.
