The Central Community College men’s basketball team lost to Peru State College JV, 89-87, on Monday night at the Raider Fieldhouse.

In the first half, CCC led 26-22 with just under 12 minutes to play when the Bobcats went on an 11-0 run to move ahead, 33-26. The Raiders closed the first half with a 13-0 run over the final five minutes to take a 46-43 halftime lead.

In the second half, Central built a 54-47 advantage in the first two minutes before the Bobcats rattled off an 11-4 run to tie the game 58-58 with 13 minutes remaining. The game was close until four minutes left in regulation when the Raiders went up 81-76. Peru State outscored CCC 11-4 to go up 87-85 with time running out. PSC’s AJ Hogan put the game out of reach with two three throws with three seconds left and the Bobcats left town with the 89-87 victory.

Hogan led the Bobcats with 43 points while Dwight Glover Jr. was the top scorer for the Raiders with 21. CCC’s Emarr Vinson logged a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Caleb Muia rounded out CCC’s double-digit scoring with 13 points.

“We didn’t do the little things well enough to win,” said CCC head coach John Ritzdorf. “(We had) too many missed layups and free throws on the offensive end and not enough stops on defense.  AJ Hogan is a really good player, but to let him go for 43 points also says a lot about our urgency on defense.”

The loss snapped CCC’s three-game winning streak and gives the Raiders an 11-6 record.

The Raiders have a quick turnaround as they travel to York on Tuesday night to take on York College JV. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Freeman Center.
