Bellevue University head volleyball coach Trish Siedlik announced today the signing of 6-0 middle blocker/rightside hitter Savanna Berger (Plattsmouth, Neb./Midland/Plattsmouth HS) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic pursuits at BU beginning in the fall of 2024.

Berger, the daughter of Staci and Colin Berger, played two seasons at Midland University, where she appeared in 29 matches, amassing 86 kills while hitting .285. She also produced 49 total blocks during her sophomore season.

Berger prepped at Plattsmouth High School under head coach Marla Smith, earning first-team all-conference honors in 2020 and 2021 while being named MVP and team captain in both her junior and senior campaigns. She recorded 355 kills, 32 digs, 58 blocks, and 24 service aces during her high school career.

A versatile athlete, Berger was a two-time qualifier in the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships in the 4×100 meter relay.

An excellent student, Berger was on Plattsmouth HS’s Honor Roll every semester of high school. She was on the Dean’s List at Midland for three straight semesters.

Berger played club volleyball for coaches Bo Yong and Cassidy Young at Banzai Select, where she was named team captain, helping her squad qualify for USA Junior Nationals in 2021.

“This is a unique story of second chances for Savanna here at Bellevue University,” said Siedlik. “We are lucky to have her and work through some things to get her healthy. She has a team of folks looking after her, and fortunately for us, she decided to play again. With her size and power, we hope to fulfill the depth we need in the middle to keep fresh legs through the grueling schedule that we will face. I love that she is a great student and has a life plan!”

Berger joins earlier signee 5-9 setter Victoria Runyan (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola HS) in the 2024 class.

The Bruins wrapped up the 2023 season with an overall record of 26-10, finishing second in the North Star Athletic Association regular season and post-season tournament while advancing to the NAIA National Tournament for the 16th time in school history.
