DICKINSON, N.D. — Dustin Schorie fired a complete game shutout and eight of BU’s 10 hits went for extra bases as the top-seeded Bellevue University baseball team defeated No. 5-seed Waldorf University 10-0 in seven innings in the Bruins’ first game of the North Star Athletic Association Tournament.

Bellevue faces No. 3-seeded Valley City State University tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. with a spot in the Championship Game on the line.

Waldorf drops into the loser’s bracket where they will next face Dakota State University tomorrow at noon.

Both pitchers – BU’s Dustin Schorie and Waldorf’s Zach Meyer – were sharp early with neither team managing a base runner until the third. The Warriors threatened as their first two runners reached but fielder’s choice, strikeout, and ground ball saw Schorie strand a pair in scoring position.

Bellevue struck with the game’s first run in the bottom of the third. Nick Grade drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a failed pickoff before being singled home by Elijah Bear. With RBI-doubles from Jake LaceyBrendan Luther, and Steven Elsner later in the inning, BU lead 4-0 after three.

Schorie made light work of the Warriors over the next two innings and in the bottom of the fifth, Lacey blasted his 11th home run to left. Anthony Lind drove in Logan Grant with a two-out single to make it 6-0 for Bellevue.

Waldorf collected three hits in the top of the seventh, including a leadoff double, but were again unable to cash in.

Grant opened the bottom of the seventh with his team- and league-leading 19th home run. A double from Luther and triple by Elsner pushed the Bruin lead to 8-0 before Lind ended it with his ninth home run of the year, a two-run shot to left.

Schorie (7-1) struck out seven and did not issue a walk in his third complete game shutout of the season.

Meyer (4-5), who had beaten the Bruins a little over a month ago, struck out three in five innings of work, surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits and a pair of walks.
