Briar Cliff Volleyball loses to Concordia

SEWARD, Neb. –The Briar Cliff University volleyball team (0-9 GPAC, 6-15) lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-19) to #4 Concordia (Neb.) (8-1 GPAC, 15-2), Friday night at Freidrich Arena.

In the first set, Briar Cliff and Concordia played on even terms until 7-7.  The Bulldogs reeled off a 9-4 run to lead 16-11.

The Chargers began to creep back into the set.  Sophomore Aliyah Basham blasted the ball to the floor to end an 8-4 burst by BCU.

That closed the gap to 20-19.  Concordia scored three in a row to effectively end the set.

In the second set, the Bulldogs got off to a 10-5 lead.  Briar Cliff forced an error and senior Taylin Boettcher served up two points.

That put the Chargers down 10-8.  Concordia went on a 10-4 run to take control.

In the third set, the Bulldogs jumped out 7-2 and never looked back.

For Briar Cliff, junior Isabelle Lenz ended the night with a .313 hitting percentage.  Junior Avery Beller had 22 digs for her third straight match.  She has recorded double-digit digs in her last 22 matches.

For Concordia, Ashley Keck had 10 kills and 13 digs.

Briar Cliff stays on the road, Saturday, Oct. 12 taking on Midland.  The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
