Briar Cliff Baseball drops Home Doubleheader to Doane

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Briar Cliff University baseball team (10-6 Great Plains Athletic Conference, 17-16) lost 3-1 and 18-2 to #14 Doane (14-4 GPAC, 28-8), Friday at Bishop Mueller Field.

Game 1
For the first five innings, the pitchers took center stage.  Graduate student Kyler Steinborn and Aaron Forrest scattered five hits between them.

Doane scored in the top of the sixth to take a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom half of the inning, with two outs, junior Diego Trujillo singled and moved to second on an error.

Junior Cam Riemer singled to score Trujillo and make it 1-1.  The Tigers scored twice in the top of the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, junior Jake Chronic led off with a single.  Doane got the next three batters out to get the win,

For Briar Cliff, Steinborn (3-3) gave up nine hits, three runs, walked two and struck out seven in 6.7 innings.  

For Doane, Forrest (8-0) gave up four hits, one run which was unearned, walked two and struck out eight in seven innings.

Game 2
The Tigers scored seven runs over the first three innings to effectively seal the game.

For Briar Cliff, sophomore Connor Neubeck had a pinch-hit home run.  Sophomore Carter Schorg (3-1) gave up six hits, six runs with five earned, walked two and struck out two in 2.7 innings.

For Doane, Kellan Voggesser (2-1) gave up three hits, one run, walked two and struck out three in four innings.

Briar Cliff stays home, Saturday, Apr. 13 taking on Midland.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
