Bluejay Baseball Wins Series with San Francisco
March 18th, 2024 | Creighton Athletics

Omaha, Neb. — Creighton Baseball battled through a cold afternoon at the ballpark to claim a 7-4 win over San Francisco on Sunday, March 17.

The Bluejays moved to 14-3 with the win, taking the series from the Dons. San Francisco fell to 13-7 following Sunday’s action.

Down 1-0 as Creighton came to the plate, it took just two batters for the Bluejays to pull even as Tate Gillen singled up the middle and Nolan Sailors launched an RBI double to right center.

Creighton pushed across two unearned runs to take the lead, yet the game was knotted once more when San Francisco plated a pair in the top of the fifth.

Senior Colby Canales gave the Bluejays the lead for good with a solo shot over the wall in left-center.

Creighton tacked on three more runs in the seventh via an RBI single from Gillen and a two-run blast by Teddy Deters.

San Francisco pushed across a run in the top of the ninth, but closer Mason Koch induced a grounder to third to leave the bags full and secure the contest.

Gillen led the way with two hits (2-for-3) with two runs scored and an RBI, while Deters collected two RBI.

Reliever Shane Curtin earned the win (1-0) with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, while San Francisco starter Joe Soberon took the loss (2-2). Soberon allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits in 6.1 innings.

Creighton returns to action on Tuesday as the Bluejays host South Dakota State in a 6:00 p.m. contest at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
