August 28th, 2024 | Connie Green

Though not officially opening until the ribbon cutting ceremony on September 5th, the Blair South By-Pass is expected to open to traffic sometime this Friday according to Blair City Administrator Phil Green in Tuesday night’s Blair City Council meeting. He says the traffic lights at the Hollow Road South ByPass and Highway 30 will be operational. It is expected that Mayor Mindy Rump will take the first drive on the newly finished roadway that connects Highway 75 on the east to Highway 30 on the west. The project has been over 20 years in the making. The Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, September 5th will be marked by a ceremony with guests Senators Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts among other dignitaries. The by-pass is designed to alleviate some of the heavy truck traffic in Blair’s downtown area. A lengthy session with the Council, several in-depth look at agenda items, including the results of the 2024 Housing Advisory Committee, setting the budget hearing for September 10th at 6pm, zoning work on the proposed Blair Crossings Subdivision, and a rezone application for a special mixed use district overlay for 9330 State Highway 133. Mayor Mindy Rump also recognized the life saving efforts of Blair Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department members Joe Maguire, Tyrel Hernes, Anthony Borders, and Derek Paper – along with Blair Police Department members Josh Hathaway and Bob Leehy, and Washington County deputy Shane Thallas and county dispatcher Cassie Hoferer.
