Bellevue Volleyball downs Mt. Mercy

OMAHA, Neb. — Redshirt freshman Rowyn Scheer came off the bench to lead four Bruins in double figures, finishing with a career-high 14 kills as the 14th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team downed Mt. Mercy University, 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 27-29, 25-20) Saturday morning in the Bruins’ final match of the CSM Labor Day Classic being played at the Lied Fieldhouse on the CSM campus. 

The Bruins improved to 7-2 on the season after finishing the tournament with a 3-0 record following sweeps over the University of Saint Francis and No. 4 Concordia (Neb.) University on Friday. The Mustangs dropped to 3-7 on the year. 

Scheer, who entered the match in the second set, hit .423 in the contest and added a pair of blocks.

A trio of Bruins registered 12 kills, including Haley FleischmanKealy Kiviniemi, and Kenzie Polk. Fleischman hit a blistering .600 with no errors on 20 swings while adding five blocks. 

Defensively, BU was paced by sophomore Ali Butler‘s career-high 16 digs. 

Mila Aiwohi (33) and Victoria Runyan (20) combined for 53 assists while directing the BU attack to an efficient .314 hitting percentage. 

The Mustangs were led by Mary Kate Blendage, who notched a double-double with 19 kills and 17 digs.  

The Bruins travel to Peru, Neb., on Wednesday, Sept. 4, for a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Peru State College.
