Archbishop of Omaha George J. Lucas has approved $500,000 in financial supports for Catholic education in the parish communities of Rural Family G, which includes St. Mary in Leigh, St. Francis of Assisi in Humphrey, St. Michael in Tarnov, Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Clarkson and Holy Family in Lindsay.

The Archdiocese of Omaha will make a one-time donation of $200,000 to aid in the successful launch of Archangels Catholic High School (ACHS), Rural Family G’s new central high school located in Humphrey. In addition, two grants totaling $300,000 were awarded from the Archdiocese of Omaha’s Catholic School Excellence Fund. The announcement was made Sunday, May 26 at a meeting led by the Rev. Scott Hastings, vicar general for the archdiocese. Leaders from the five churches of Rural Family G and a team from the Archdiocese of Omaha were present at the meeting.

“The Dedication of the local leadership since the announcement of the school merger fills me with great pride and inspiration,” Archdiocese of Omaha Catholic Schools Superintendent Vickie Kauffold said. “The commitment of Excellence Grant Funds affirms the good work that has taken place to safeguard Catholic education for the children in northern Platte and Colfax Counties.”

The ACHS Transition Team shared the news with parishioners in a letter and highlighted its gratitude for the commitment. “We are thankful for the support of Archbishop Lucas and Vickie Kauffold, Archdiocesan Superintendent of Schools, wo administers the Excellence Grants,” the Transition Team said. “Their financial gifts exemplify their unwavering support and belief in Catholic education in our family of parishes.”

Three-hundred thousand dollars of the funds will directly aid Archangels Catholic High School in its inaugural year, with $100,000 ear-marked for branding costs of ACHS, such as team uniforms, signage and a school website. The remaining $200,000 is dedicated to establishing an Advancement Office that will focus on the long-term financial stability necessary to continue the strong tradition of Catholic education in the area.

Archangels Catholic High School is currently accepting new student applications for the 2024-2025 school year. Enrollment questions should be directed to the school principal, Jennifer Dunn, at jdunn@achs.esu7.org. Other inquiries should be sent to transitionteam@achs.esu7.org.
