Rosemary Gentrup, 85, of West Point, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023 at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am on Saturday, November 11 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Rev. James Weeder as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the GACC Cafeteria. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm with a Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters Rosary at 1:30pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will continue with family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Elder Services Foundation or GACC School Endowments. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.

Rose Mary Gentrup was born on March 2, 1938 to George and Frances (Ortmeier) Franzluebbers near West Point.  She attended St. Boniface Catholic School to the 8 th  grade.  On June 11, 1958, Rose married Ignatius Gentrup at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey.  The couple lived and farmed north of West Point where Rose was a loving farm wife, a loving Mother and homemaker.  In 1959 they moved southeast of West Point where she lived until moving into West Point in 2006.

Rose began baking and decorating cakes for all occasions in 1973 and continued this love for 25 years.   Rose was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, and Christian
Mothers.   Her faithfulness and dedication to the church was evident in her many years of being an organist, choir member, lector, and EMHC.  One of her favorite musical passions was being a part of the Merry Makers with her three sisters providing entertainment at area nursing homes.  Rose’s unwavering faith and love of family will be a lasting legacy.

–        Son, Ronald (Diane) of Wayne; Ashley (Cameron) Welbig, Luke (Kayla), and their
son, Jace, and Kelly
–        Son, Marvin (Eileen) of Beemer; Mitch (Darnele) Smith and children Oliver and Oakley,
Rik (Jamie) Smith and children Eleanor, Caleb, and Abigail
–        Son, Leon (Beth) of Norfolk; Matt and Daira
–        Daughter, Jean (Gary “Chip”) Schulzkump of West Point; Andrew, Jacob, Nicki (Joseph)
Coyle and their daughter Aurora.
–        Son, Lynn of Lincoln

Sisters-in-law, Lillian Franzluebbers and Margaret Franzluebbers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Geraldine Gentrup, Fred Gentrup, Sr. Clarice Gentrup, Ted (Doris) Gentrup, Leona Gentrup, Millie Gentrup, and Theresa Spader, and many nieces and nephews.  Rose is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ignatius on December 19, 1992; son, Joseph in 1964; grandson, Eric Gentrup in 1985; and siblings, Herman (Catherine), Bernard, John, Josephine (Rudy) Kampschnieder, Caroline (Clarence) Kampschnieder, Catherine Franzluebbers, Ann (Wilfred) Steffensmeier, Sr. M. Georgiana Franzluebbers, Sr. M. Frances Franzluebbers and Ferdinand.
