Robert C. Howser age 82 of West Point, NE passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

Memorial services for Robert C. Howser age 82 of West Point, NE will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE with Rev. Priscilla Hukki officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted following the service.  Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be on Friday, June 30, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home and will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service. The service will be livestreamed on the Minnick Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/minnickfuneralserviceinc .  The family suggests memorials be directed to the Dodge Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8597.

Robert Charles Howser was born November 2, 1940 in Cortland, New York to Franklin and Mary (McDaniels) Howser.  He grew up on a farm in upstate New York and attended Dryden High School until enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in March of 1958.  He served in Hawaii and received his GED until his discharge in 1961.

Bob was united in marriage to Evelyn Frost on March 16, 1963 in Ithaca, NY.  In July of 1963 he enlisted in the United States Army serving over the years at Ft. Brag, Ft. Stewart, Ft. Meade, Ft. Lewis, and Ft. Richardson.  His overseas tours were in Germany, Vietnam, and South Korea.  Bob retired in October of 1982 at Ft. Richardson, AK.

The family remained in Alaska for one year, moving to Freeville, NY for 5 years, and in 1990 moving to a farm south of Howells, NE, where he raised chickens and hogs.  He also was employed at Smeal Manufacturing in Snyder until his retirement.  The couple moved to West Point, NE in 2013.

Bob was a member of Dodge Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8597.  Bob enjoyed gardening, canning, and making his pink pear jam.  He enjoyed smoking meat for a variety of occasions.  He loved to hunt and fish and took annual trips back to Alaska after moving stateside.  Bob was an avid storyteller, mostly true with a twist of fiction.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Bob was blessed with a large extended military family and an exceptional group of friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents-Franklin and Mary Howser, and siblings-Franklin Howser, Jr., Gail Baker, and Linda Zimmer.
