Mass of Christian Burial for Marguerite V. Brodecky age 98 of Howells, NE will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church-Heun, rural Clarkson, NE.  Interment will be in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery-Heun.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m., and will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service, all at Holy Trinity Catholic Church-Heun.  Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge, NE is assisting the family with the arrangements.  The family suggests that memorials be directed to the family for future designation in Marguerite’s name.

 Marguerite passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Clarkson Community Care Center in Clarkson, NE.

 Marguerite V. Brodecky, 98, daughter of James P. and Clara M. (Eller) Casey was born on August 3, 1925, on the family farm northwest of Schuyler.  Marguerite attended rural Dist. #40 K-6 Elementary School and graduated at age 14 with the 1940 Schuyler High School class.  While in high school, she took 2 years of post-graduate classes to become a teacher.  For 2 years, Marguerite taught at the Heun School.  The following 2 years, she taught at Fisher School Dist. #24 and her home school Dist. #40.  She attended Midland College in Fremont to renew her teaching certificate, and while there walked to Woolworth’s clerking in the afternoons.  Since Ernie Brodecky, her intended, was serving in World War II, she moved to Omaha and entered Commercial Extension College.  There, she worked in the Infants and Children’s Department at Brandeis until Ernie returned home.

Marguerite married Ernie on August 27, 1947 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler.  They lived on the Brodecky homestead southwest of Howells where she was a devoted homemaker.  Her hobbies included:  embroidery, reading the daily news, cooking, baking, playing piano and working word puzzles.  She loved listening to good music, Sunday night polka dancing at the Howells Ballroom, growing flowers, and gardening.  Marguerite inspired many by her strong faith.  She is a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  She was recognized for over 50 years of membership in the Heun Altar Society, Heun Ladies Guild, Howells GFWC Woman’s Club, Howells American Legion Auxiliary, and Catholic Workman.  She held offices in some of these organizations.

Marguerite’s pride and joy was her loving family that survived her.  Three daughters:  Mary Claire (Larry) Cerny of Clarkson, Janice (Jerry) Walton of Lincoln, Marguerite Ann “Marty” (Rich) Coufal of Howells and One Daughter-In-Law:  Ann (Lonnie) Brodecky-Seybold of Howells.  Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren include:  Todd and Julie Cerny (Caden, Emma, Andelka, Gianna, and Briella) of Hastings; Kim and Joe Hefflinger (Jolie and Lily) of Omaha; Nicole and Mark Lickliter (Sebastian, Silas and Chenoa, Abraham, Apollos, Boaz, Phoebe, Meshach, Hudson & Theo) of Council Bluffs; Dayne and Angie Walton (Joslyn, Dreyton and Maddox) and stepchildren (Eva, Ella, Leilanni and Kai) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Marcus and Paige Walton of Omaha;  Steve Coufal of Lincoln, Jason and Christy Coufal (Audrey and Tyson) of Howells; Michelle and Craig Dickes (Landon, Emery and Hazel) of McCook;  Brittney Beeks and Travis Heller (Addison, Micheal, Meika and Braylon) of Howells; Ernest J. Brodecky of Omaha; Aaron Brodecky of Howells; Adam and Billi Brodecky (Kallan and Macyn) and stepchildren (Derrick, Kierra, and Jerzie) of Howells; and Jennifer and Chance Marr of Kewaunee, Wisconsin.  Also surviving Marguerite are sister-in-law:  Mary Ann Casey of Omaha and brother-in-law:  Doug Harpster of Halfway, Missouri.

Preceding Marguerite in death were her husband, Ernest Brodecky; son, Ernie Jr. Brodecky; great granddaughter, Francesca Cerny, and Marguerite’s siblings:  James (Maryalyce) Casey, Marjorie (Johnnie) Schimonitz, John (Janith) Casey, Helen (Doug) Harpster, Delores (Adrian) Koliha, Lawrence Casey and Baby Sister, Janice Casey along with many other caring relatives and friends.
