Funeral services for Gerald H. Ehler age 91 of Beemer, NE will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE with Rev. Lewis Miller officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Beemer Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Beemer American Legion Hall. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Cuming County Fair Foundation, P.O. Box 53 West Point, NE 68788.
Gerald passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.
Gerald Harrison Ehler was born October 8, 1932 at the family farm to Helen (Harrison) Ehler and Walter Ehler. He graduated from Wisner High School in 1950, where he was active in 4-H, FFA, and played football, basketball and ran track. Gerald moved to Lincoln, NE by train to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, and was a member of the UNL Judging Team while studying Animal Science. Gerald was in the ROTC program at UNL, graduating from the University in 1954.
He served in the Army National Guard before being called up for active duty as a 1st Lieutenant and was deployed to Germany by ship from 1955-1958. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home to join his father in the family farm business.
Gerald met Marlene Woodka at a dance in Beemer and they were united in marriage on June 11, 1960.
Gerald enjoyed farming, showing 4-H cattle in Cuming County, Husker sports, and conversations over coffee at the Beemer Café.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents-Walter and Helen Ehler, sister-Mary Lake, and sister-Rosemary in infancy.
