Carol Jean Schoch, 80, of Lincoln, formerly of Lyons
- May 26, 2023

Carol Jean Schoch passed away on May 26, 2023 at Bryan West in Lincoln.

Carol was born on December 24, 1942 to Art and Eileen Ahlers and was their only child. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Pender and attended a one room school in rural Thurston county and then went on to graduate from Pender High School.

After graduating from high school, Carol went on to work at Pender State Bank. On June 10, 1962 she was united in marriage to Myron Schoch. After spending a few years in Nehawka where Myron was the Ag teacher they took the opportunity to move closer to home as Myron took a job as Ag teacher in Lyons.

While in Lyons, Carol worked babysitting the neighborhood kids. As her boys got older she took a job as a teachers aide for special ed students at Lyons Public School. She remained there for nearly 3 decades until retiring, working as both a teachers aide and a secretary. In 2005 she moved to Lincoln to be closer to the boys.

Carol loved gardening. If she wasn’t at school you could probably find her in the garden, watering her marigolds and viburnums, picking strawberries from her strawberry patch (avoiding all the snakes!), or tending to the tomatoes, potatoes, onions, zucchini, and peas (most of which never made it to the house if the boys picked them!). Even after moving to Lincoln she continued to garden, growing mostly flowers but also had several small vegetable planters on her deck.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Eileen. Parents-in-law Harry and Alice Schoch. Husband Myron. Sister-in-law Carol Ann Schoch and brother-in-law Kenneth Schoch.

She is survived by her boys, Brad and Jeff, both of Lincoln. Her aunt Pearl Hinrichs of Beemer. Sisters and brothers in-law Janet and John Gibney of Fremont, Lois and Mark Fleer of rural Hoskins, and Kathryn Schoch of Breemer.

The memorial service will be at 10 am on Tuesday, June 6 at Lincoln Memorial, 6800 S 14th St, Lincoln, NE 68516. Interment will be in the Bancroft cemetery at a later date. Memorials to the Lyons Decatur Schools general scholarship fund.
