Albert Oligmueller, age 97, of West Point, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am on Saturday, August 14th, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at St. Charles with Rev. James Weeder as celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery with lunch following at the GACC Cafeteria. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Family will be present at visitation from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery or to the family for future designation. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.
Albert Theodore Oligmueller was born on July 30, 1924 in St. Charles Township, rural West Point, to Theodore and Carolina (Schmuecker) Oligmueller. He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and was a
1942 graduate of Guardian Angels High School in West Point. Albert served in the United States Army during World War II from January 30, 1944 to November 21, 1946. He served in the Pacific Theater on
the islands of Okinawa and Japan before being honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sargent. On April 29, 1953, Albert married Evangeline Pribnow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. The
couple farmed west of West Point before retiring to town.
Albert was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Holy Name Society. He served on the District 10 School Board and Cuming County Public Power District Board of Directors for 12 years. As an US Army Veteran, Albert was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4912 and American Legion Post 70 in West Point. He was also the founder of the avenue of flags at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Albert was one of the World War II veterans who took part in the Humble Heroes trip to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial. This trip and two trips to Germany were a special memory.
He loved hunting deer and ducks on the Elkhorn River and moral mushrooms in the springtime. Albert found a hobby in woodworking. This hobby created the speaker box and the Easter candle holder at St.
Anthony’s. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.
Survivors include his daughters, Joanne (Tom) Recker, Marilyn Oligmueller, and Diane Oligmueller all of West Point; grandchildren, Alan (Sara) Recker, Joseph (Janna) Recker, Katie (Mike) Selk, and Tyler (Tessa) Recker; great grandchildren, Alyson and Hailey Recker, Ella and Brynn Recker, and Brayden and Chloe Selk; and sisters, Agatha Ortmeier of Fremont and Hilda Hansen of Pender.
Albert is preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline, in 1998; parents; brothers, William (Hildegard) and Anton (Marie) Oligmueller; sisters, Ann (Ed) Meister and Mona (Wilfred) Meister; and brothers-in-law, Edwin Ortmeier and Fred Hansen.
