HOLDREGE – The Don Sjogren Community YMCA will be strengthening the community this summer by providing free nutritious meals for kids.

The Kids Café free summer lunch program kicks off June 3 and will continue through August 2. Sack meals will be offered for pick-up only this summer. No in-person dining option will be available.

Meals can be picked up between 11 a.m. and noon from either the First Presbyterian Church at 1103 Sheridan in Holdrege or from the YMCA at 1415 Broadway in Holdrege.

The Kids’ Cafe, which is in its 13th year, provides free, nutritious lunches for children who may be home alone during the summer while parents work or whose families struggle to afford food during the summer months.

Last year, more than 3,500 meals were served, giving children the nourishment they needed for a healthy summer.

This year, the Kids Café is supported by sponsorships from Cargill and Family Fare and a grant from Spartan-Nash.

The YMCA is a non-profit organization that works to strengthen the community with programs focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
