Incoming weather is hampering efforts to clear the site of a Humvee fire north of Kimball, which means Highway 71 between Kimball and the Harrisburg turnoff will need to remain closed until further notice.

The 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs Office at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne says the operations planned for Tuesday to detonate munitions at the site and clear the scene have had to be suspended.

KNEB News has been told the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight Team from the Cheyenne base was able to conduct one controlled detonation, but out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to halt further operations due to high winds in the area.

Nebraska Highway 88 westbound from Bridgeport to Highway 71 also remains closed.

Motorists are advised to plan accordingly and use alternate routes.
