York, Neb. — One person was killed in an SUV/semi accident on Highway 34 west of York Tuesday morning according to York County Sheriff Paul Vrbka.

The victim of the crash was identified as Robin L. Hendricksen , 71, of Grand Island. The Sheriff said the vehicle Hendricksen was driving crossed the center line and hit a semi head-on, shortly after 10 a.m.

The crash occurred on the highway, near the entrance to the York Municipal Airport.

Captain Josh Gillespie with the York County Sheriff’s Office said the accident was witnessed by several people who confirmed Hendricksen crossed into the other lane, which caused the collision.

Hendricksen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff Vrbka says the investigation continues.

Responding to the accident were the York County Sheriff’s Office, the York Police Department, York Fire and Rescue, the Nebraska State Patrol, Hitz Towing and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

The Sheriff’s Office notes that York County has seen a large number of fatal accidents this summer. Three people were killed in an accident at the junction of Highway 34 East and Highway 81 in late May. Then on the Fourth of July, a motorcyclist was killed at the intersection of Road P and Highway 34.
