Around 12:45 am Saturday, an off-duty Nebraska State Patrol Trooper came upon a 2-vehicle collision that had occurred on Highway 83, approximately 6 miles south of Maywood. Additional troopers, Frontier County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and EMS responded.

The State Patrol says the preliminary investigation shows that a Ford Explorer, driven by Douglas Horn, 66, of Curtis, was northbound on Highway 183 when it crossed the center line and struck a southbound Mazda 6, driven by Jenna Cox, 24, of Hastings. Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office offered their “deepest sympathy to families and friends of those involved”. Sheriff Michael Jordan says they would also ask motorists to “please drive safely”. He added his appreciation to the responding agencies of what has been described as a “tragic incident”.
