Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team swept Central Oklahoma and downed Northwest Missouri State in five sets to win the MIAA Spring Tournament Saturday evening in Topeka, Kan.

This event concludes the weird 2020/2021 season for the Lopers. With the NCAA canceling the Championships back in the fall, this spring didn’t officially count (player, coach and school records). In addition, there was no official MIAA regular season or tourney champion this spring.

Despite being banged up since the season began in February, UNK posted a 16-3 mark in 2021. The Lopers beat UCO (-22, -23, -16) in the afternoon to reach the finals match. Northwest, which swept UNK last Saturday, swept Central Missouri on the other side of the bracket.

Kearney finished 2-1 against the Bearcats this spring as they closed the match on a 6-2 run (-18, -18, 22-25, 23-25). Four unforced Northwest errors and a kill from senior middle Anna Squiers erased an 11-9 deficit and put the Lopers at match point. The ‘Cats scored the next two points but Hastings redshirt freshman outside Cecilia Beahm recorded a kill to end things.
