Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney head softball coach Katie Ackermann announced today that Jason Miller is the Lopers new assistant coach.

He replaces Kyle Honeycutt who left the program to be an assistant at Black Hills (S.D.) State. His soon-to-be-wife, Aubrey Voboril, is the Yellowjackets new head coach.

Miller is involved in all aspects of the program and has been with the team through fall ball and winter conditioning. The 2022 season starts next weekend in Lubbock, Texas, with UNK slated to play five games over three days.

“We’re excited to announce our new assistant coach, Jason Miller. Jason has been with UNK for many years and truly believes in the mission and values our University stands for,” said Ackermann. “He brings so much knowledge when it comes to defensive strategy and mindset on the mound. He’s also already been grinding when it comes to recruiting! He’s shared a lot of new ideas for our program and I’m absolutely thrilled to see where we go.”

A native of North Platte, Miller works in the UNK Department of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences as a Lecturer. Previously, he was the Physical Activity and Wellness Lab Coordinator at UNK and also worked for the City of Kearney Park and Recreation as the Coordinator of Athletics.

A former Loper pitcher, Miller has an extensive coaching background. He currently is a coach, instructor and the Director of Fall Operations for the Central Nebraska Baseball Academy, located in Kearney, and is the head coach for the Jersey’s Senior American Legion team in the summer. He served as UNK baseball’s assistant head coach, pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and strength & conditioning coach for nearly five years and held similar duties at Independence (Kansas) Community College between 2005-08.

He holds a Sports Administration degree from UNK and a Master’s in Health, P.E. and Recreation from Emporia State. Miller is a Certified High Intensity Interval Training instructor as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

The Lopers won 17 games in 2021, batting .299 with 73 doubles and 35 home runs. UNK returns the majority of that roster while bringing in 12 newcomers this spring.
