Two-vehicle injury crash in Buffalo County

Amherst, Neb. — The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding a two-vehicle head-on crash just west of Amherst, Nebraska on Highway 40. It occurred Friday at approximately 7:24 a.m.

The crash involved a westbound 2017 Chevy Trax driven by a 34 year old Kearney woman, and an eastbound 2020 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 51 year old Mason City woman. Both were transported from the scene to CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. The names of the injured have not been released. No passengers were in either vehicle.

A portion of the road on Highway 40 was closed for approximately 4 hours for the investigation.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the Kearney Police Department, Kearney / Buffalo County Fatality Accident Investigation (FAIT) team, Amherst Volunteer Fire Department, CHI GSH Paramedics, Nebraska State Department of Roads and Buffalo County Attorney’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
