KEARNEY – Two Rivers Public Health Department is excited to announce an upcoming COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic in Dawson County. The Two Rivers team will be working with area partners to vaccinate approximately 1,000 workers at the Tyson Foods plant in Lexington. The closed clinic, led by Two Rivers Public Health is planned only for Tyson Foods plant employees for Friday, March 12, 2021.

The clinic will feature the Pfizer vaccine. Jeremy Eschliman, Health Director, is thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to those employees at Tyson. “We know that early on in the pandemic, these essential workers became the focus of our first group cases. We are so pleased that we are able to come in and provide this service to them so they can continue to work hard to support their families as well as helping in our community efforts to prevent additional spread of COVID in the future.”

In partnership with Two Rivers Public Health Department and Lexington Regional Health Center, Tyson team members eligible under the locally established phases for vaccine distribution will receive their first vaccination dose. Vaccinations for team members are voluntary, but highly encouraged.

“Providing vaccine accessibility is a critical part of our ongoing commitment to put the health and safety of our team members first,” said Dave Roemmich, complex manager at the Lexington facility. “We’ve had great interest from team members and hope this event will encourage even more of our employees to be vaccinated.”

Providing workers access to the vaccine is the latest in a series of measures Tyson Foods has taken to fight COVID-19. Since the spring of 2020, the company invested hundreds of millions of dollars to transform its U.S. facilities with protective measures, from walk-through temperature scanners and workstation dividers to social distance monitors and always-on testing, as well as provide additional team member pay and benefits. Tyson Foods has also expanded its health services staff, added a chief medical officer and plans to pilot health clinics for team members and their families early this year.

Photos and video of a recent Tyson vaccination event in Fayetteville, Arkansas are available for download. Two Rivers will be working with several area partners to ensure that this large undertaking goes smoothly. Eschliman said large events such as this are a testament to the strength of our local communities and partnerships.
