KEARNEY – Two Rivers Public Health Department held their largest mass vaccination clinic to date on Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Viaero Center in Kearney, administering 790 doses. This event utilized the newly approved Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) one shot vaccine for COVID-19, recently approved by the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization. Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are 100% effective at preventing hospitalization and death from COVID19.

Jeremy Eschliman, Health Director, stated the event went very well and a large number of Two Rivers district citizens were able to receive a vaccine. “We received 800 doses of the Janssen vaccine on Wednesday, and we were able to administer 99% (790) of those at our clinic on Friday. The remaining 10 doses difference was a combination of previous day administration and nonviable doses.” Eschliman continued, “We are continuing to assess the need for additional mass vaccination sites such as the event held at the Viaero Center across the Two Rivers district based on current vaccination rates and disparities.”

Eschliman wanted to extend sincere gratitude to all of the team at Two Rivers, as well as the immense volunteer group who assisted. There were 25 Two Rivers staff members and 35 volunteers from various agencies who contributed to the success of this event. Several agencies to acknowledge who assisted in this district event are CHI Health Good Samaritan, Buffalo County Emergency Management, Region 3 Behavioral Health/Nebraska Strong, City of Kearney, Kearney Area Community Foundation, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, University of Nebraska Medical Center-UNK, Army National Guard, and many others. Eschliman wanted to extend a special word of thanks to the Viaero Center for their assistance in hosting and facilitating the event. He said that Viaero Center staff and facility were a significant contributor to the success of the event and that Two Rivers is looking forward future events at the location in the future.
