Gibbon, Neb. — Cleanup efforts are underway following a train derailment at Gibbon early Sunday.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the derailment at 2:24 a.m. according to a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.
Union Pacific Railroad officials said they are dealing with the incident and are not in need of outside assistance.
Several train cars carrying coal derailed. No word on how many cars left the tracks or whether there were injuries. Traffic on nearby U.S. Highway 30 has not been affected.
