The Eustis Senior Center has served the community for 40 years. Senior Center Committee Chair Dorsie Farrar says it provides noon meals and serves as a place for socialization. Activities include a foot clinic by Home Health, special fundraising Sunday dinners once a month for “which we have very good turnout”, along with a pool table and exercise in the mornings.

But, declining attendance and rising costs has lead to negative balance sheets the past couple of months. Farrar emphasizes the Senior Center is not in debt but, has been losing money on a monthly basis. She points to rising cost of utilities, insurance, taxes, and food. She says “we’re not in the hole, we’re not in debt but, we are losing money” and “we don’t have the attendance that we should have at noon meals to make this work”.

It’s lead to a Town Hall meeting being scheduled for tonight(Tuesday February 13th) at 6:00pm in the Eustis Senior Center to discuss the future of the Eustis Senior Center. Farrar says not only patrons but, all residents in the surrounding area is invited to come to the meeting. The meeting will be facilitated by a representative of the Nebraska Community Foundation.
