A large portion of west-central and central Nebraska was under the threat of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening. NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center issued a Level 3 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms into the evening hours for large hail, damaging winds between 60 and 80 mph and the potential for a tornado or two.
Thunderstorms packing winds of 80 mph knocked out power for much of North Platte on Sunday night. Assessment of the damage and cleanup is underway and will be ongoing.
