Grand Island, Neb. — In a somber ceremony Friday afternoon, state leaders helped honor and remember three law enforcement officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Grand Island Police Investigator Chris Marcello (End of Watch – July 27, 2022), Shelton Night Marshal Orren Eatherton (End of Watch – March 29, 1956) and Buffalo County Deputy Sheriff Willis Daggett (End of Watch – January 20, 1930) were all honored during the ceremony.

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen, Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers and Grand Island Police Chief Kevin Denney all spoke to those assembled, leading to several emotional moments throughout the ceremony.
“It was an honor to be a part of the ceremony,” Chief Denney said. “Each time it reaffirms to me why I do what I do, and I know it affirms it to the officers in the police department.”

The memorial service will took place just four days following Officer Marcello’s name also being added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. A team of officers alongside Chief Denney attended the ceremony after taking part in the Police Unity Tour Bike Ride.

The Marcello family attended the ceremony as well, and while emotions ran high, Inv. Marcello’s widow Tami Marcello couldn’t thank the community enough for its love and support.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” she said. “It means so much to me.”
