Three Lexington residents face felony assault charges

Three people have been charged in a weekend attack of a man at a southwest Lexington residence. It was reported around midnight early Saturday morning. The victim told Lexington Police officers he was “jumped” by up to five males at the residence. He reported being “disoriented and unable to drive due to his injuries”, according police reports. The man, age 27, sustained a broken nose, serious facial injuries and spent two days at Lexington Regional Health Center. Other possible injuries include a concussion and fractured orbital bones.

A video of the fight obtained by police shows a man holding the victim in a choke hold from behind while the victim was severely beaten by other subjects. The report continued that the victim lost consciousness during the incident and identified the suspect as 20-year-old Adrian Navarrete of Lexington. He was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Officers made contact with the resident of the home. He said the victim came to his residence and threatened him. The resident, Alexander Martinez, had injuries to “his hands consistent with punching”, according to the report. Martinez, age 20, was taken into custody and booked into the Dawson County Jail.

Later at the Lexington Regional Health Center, the victim was further interviewed by a Lexington Police officer. The victim told him that a woman also participated in the assault. The police report stated that the woman allegedly stomped on his ribs at least two times. The woman, 19-year-old Shadany Alvidrez-Valerio of Lexington, was taken into custody and booked in the Dawson County Jail.

On Tuesday afternoon, both Martinez and Alvidrez-Valerio were arraigned in Dawson County Court each on a charge of 1st Degree Assault, a Class II Felony which carries a penalty from one year to 50 years imprisonment. Their bonds were set at $100,000 but, they can be released if 10% or $10,000 is posted for them. Their next hearings were set for January 25, 2024 at 11:00 am in Dawson County Court.

Navarrete was arraigned in Dawson County Court Wednesday morning on charges of 1st Degree Assault and Strangulation. His bond was set at 10% of $200,000 and his next hearing was scheduled for January 29, 2024 at 1:15pm in Dawson County Court.

The investigation into the case continues.

Navarrete had been out on $50,000 bond in a previous case. Those pending charges include two counts of 2nd Degree Assault, Felony Criminal Mischief and Unlawful throwing of Fireworks. In that case, Navarrete is accused of throwing an “arterial shell” inside an occupied vehicle late in the evening of July 4, 2023. The explosion caused burns to two occupants and extensive amount of damage to the vehicle causing it to be inoperable, according to the police report.
