Gothenburg-In Gothenburg the Swedes look to make it back to the playoffs under longtime head coach Craig Haake who enters his 32nd year with the program. Last season the Swedes were improved going 6-4 before losing in the postseason to Sidney. A number of key players from that group return and Haake spoke about the season with KRVN’s Jayson Jorgensen.
Gothenburg’s top returners include running back Evan Johnson who rushed for more than a 1,000 yards as a sophomore. Also returning is fullback Jackson Daum. Anchoring the offensive line will be Max Wyatt, Zander Hruza and Gabe Smith. On defense, Daum is back after turning in another All District season last year. Rye Tiller and Torren Wind will also lead that unit along with Jackson Schwanz and Axtyn Jesseph. The Swedes will kickoff the season at rival Ogallala on August 29th.
