Southern Valley punches ticket to State

SOUTHERN VALLEY – The Southern Valley girls basketball team cruised at home on Friday night in the D1-3 District Final, winning 54-33 over Amherst.

Things got going early for Southern Valley, racing out to a 19-5 first quarter lead thanks to six points from Tori Bose. 16 first half turnovers would hurt the Broncos. Thanks to a pair of three’s in the second quarter from Hannah Herrick however, Amherst kept pace in the second quarter and trailed at the half 27-13.

Amherst started to close the gap in the third quarter, at one point cutting the lead down to 29-18. However, Southern Valley would erupt and go on a 12-0 run thanks to seven third quarter points from Ann Bose, expanding the lead to 41-18. From there, the Eagles continued to keep Amherst at arms length. Thanks to Southern Valley keeping the foot on the gas, they cruised to a 54-33 victory.

Amherst was led by Herrick who finished with 16 points. The Broncos were 4-5 from the free throw line and committed 23 turnovers. Ann Bose led the way for Southern Valley, scoring 14 points. The Eagles were 13-22 from the free throw line and had 18 turnovers.

Amherst finishes off the season at 16-8, while Southern Valley improves to 26-1, winners of 22 straight games, and are headed to the State Tournament for the second straight year.
