National Fire Prevention Week is next week(Oct 6th through 12th). Janell Patton, Fire Prevention Week Chair for Lexington Volunteer Fire Department says this year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!”.

Patton says it’s recommended that everyone have a smoke alarm in each bedroom, outside of their sleep area and on every level of the home including the basement.

Everyone is invited to celebrate the start of Fire Prevention Week with a free breakfast at the Lexington Fire Hall Sunday from 10:00am to 1:00pm. There will also be door prizes of various fire safety items such as smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and escape ladders.

Then from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Orthman Community YMCA, the Fire Department is cooperating with local law enforcement in presenting a free winter space heater safety workshop.
