The Seward County Sheriff’s Office says they have made the third seizure in the last year, of a significant amount marijuana destined for Elkhorn, NE. The latest interdiction occurred on Wednesday July 3, 2024 as a deputy initiated a traffic stop around noon on Interstate 80 near mile marker 376.

During the traffic stop, the deputy became increasingly suspicious of criminal activity and asked for consent to search the vehicle. The driver and sole occupant, denied consent to search the vehicle and a certified K-9 was deployed. A positive alert was given, and a search of the vehicle revealed approximately 170 pounds of marijuana located within the vehicle. It was determined that the destination of said marijuana was Elkhorn, NE.

The driver, 35-year-old Ryan M Marquart of Columbus, NE, was taken into custody, without incident, on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. He was then booked into the Seward County Detention Center.
