The Dundy County Sheriff’s Office reports a train vs. semi accident shortly before noon(11:43am) on Friday. It happened near U.S. Highway 34 mile marker 2. Sheriff Ryan King says there were no injuries after a BNSF train collided with a semi hauling an excavator.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the semi became high centered on the crossing and was unable to move. The driver exited the semi prior to it being struck by the train. The BNSF employees in the train engine observed the semi ahead of time and took cover in the engine.

Sheriff King says the semi, the trailer, excavator and at least one BNSF engine appears to have what he described as “extensive, disabling damage”.

Haigler Fire Department, Benkelman Fire Department and Dundy County Ambulance all provided assistance at the scene.
