September 17th, 2024 | Andrew Lacy

AMHERST – The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller volleyball team overcame a slow start Tuesday to manage a reverse sweep of Amherst 17-25, 12-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-9.

The match looked like it would be a runaway early as Amherst dominated the first two sets, never trailing for a single point.

SEM was able to find its rhythm in the third set though to avoid a sweep and pulled out a tight fourth set to extend the match further. After a close start to the fifth, the Mustangs were able to pull away for the victory.

Taryn Arbuthnot led the charge, finishing with 39 kills, 21 digs and five blocks. Jaycelyn Hoos added 13 kills.

Keelie Hagan paced Amherst with 13 kills while Lucy Van Ranken added 12.
