O’NEILL – The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller girls basketball team saw its season come to an end Friday with a 59-42 loss to St. Mary’s in the district final.

St. Mary’s never trailed in the game, opening a double digit in the first half. SEM was able to close the gap and trailed by just three at halftime, but couldn’t get over the hump.

St. Mary’s pulled away again in the second half, thanks in part to shooting 15-for-22 at the free throw line in the game while SEM went 0-for-5.

Alissa Brabec hit seven three pointers for the Cardinals to finish with a game high 26 points. Mya Hedstrom added 16 and Lorissa Reiman scored 13.

Taryn Arbuthnot led SEM with 14 points while Mikah O’Neill and Jaycelyn Hoos each finished with eight.

With the win, St. Mary’s advances to the state tournament. SEM finishes the season with a record of 20-5.
