SEM downs Walthill to advance to state semifinals

LINCOLN – The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller basketball team advanced to the state semifinals for the second straight year with a 70-49 victory over Walthill on Wednesday.

Walthill got out to a fast start to take an early lead, but SEM kept it close as Jace Rosentreader scored 12 points in the first quarter to finish the period trailing by just one.

The Mustangs took the lead early in the second quarter as they opened on a 7-0 run and took an eight point advantage into the locker room.

In the third quarter SEM was able to extend the lead to double digits before dominating the fourth quarter.

Rosentreader finished with a game high 25 points while Chance Daake added 19 and Cohen Rohde scored 11. Ethan Parker paced Walthill with 15 points.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller will face Maywood-Hayes Center in the semifinals on Friday. Tipoff at the Devaney Center will be at 7:45 p.m. on KBEAR 92.3.
