Ansley native and former UNK Loper JoAn Scott received a huge honor over the weekend. She was awarded the John Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Scott talked this week with Jayson Jorgensen about this latest honor in her hall of fame career.
Scott has been involved in the USA basketball landscape for almost four decades, beginning in 1987 when she started at USA Basketball. She worked at USA Basketball until 1996 culminating as the director of basketball operations. During that time, she was a staff administrator for the original Dream Team at the 1992 Olympics, as well as the 1996 Olympic team.
She also spent many years working at Nike. The last several years Scott has been an administrator with NCAA men’s basketball. She in now in charge of the men’s D1, D2, D3 tournaments along with the NIT tournament. Scott credits former Loper men’s basketball coaches Jerry Hueser and Tom Kropp for getting her started in this business while she went to school in Kearney.
