Hastings, Neb. –  Hastings College Athletic Director Chris Clements has announced he has received a letter of resignation from Joel Schipper to step down as the head coach of the Hastings College baseball team.

Earlier today, Schipper told his team he is leaving Hastings College to be the head baseball coach at Calvin College, a NCAA DIII school back in his hometown of Grand Rapids, MI.

“On behalf of Hastings College, I thank Coach Schipper for his service to the college as a coach,” said Clements. “Schipper brought a great attitude to the office and the field and I wish him the very best.”

Under Schipper’s leadership, Bronco baseball had 13 all-conference players, 23 NAIA Scholar-Athletes and four CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees. This past season, James Velasquez finished with an ERA of 1.71 which makes him the second player in school history to break an ERA of 2.00. Velasquez finished the year ranked No. 2 in the NAIA in ERA.

Overall, Schipper finished with a record of 33-107.
