HOLDREGE – The Amherst boys will attempt to win their third straight conference championship after beating Ansley-Litchfield 70-28 while S-E-M edged Elm Creek 44-40 to advance to the Fort Kearney Conference title game.

The Amherst boys led from start to finish in their convincing win over Ansley-Litchfield Friday night. The Broncos cashed in on 14 three pointers and forced 19 turnovers to capture the victory. Amherst also held the Spartans to single digits scoring in every quarter except the third period. The Broncos would score 20 plus points in every period except the fourth. Individually, three seperate Amherst players scored in double figures, led by Tayje Hadwiger’s 18 points. He scored 14 in the third quarter to put the game away. The S-E-M boys had to sweat out the victory and needed a late layup from Jayson Guthard to help give the Mustangs the win. Elm Creek grabbed an early lead but S-E-M would go on a 13-0 run and eventually build a 12 point lead. After scoring 19 points in the first quarter, the Mustangs struggled to score the rest of the contest and eventually saw the Buffaloes retake the lead in the fourth quarter. With less than 30 seconds to play and a tie game, Guthard would score on a layup to give the Mustangs the lead.
