BALTIMORE ) —Kansas City’s magical run continued on Wednesday as they downed the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 in their wild card series. Just as he did all year long, Bobby Witt Jr. came up with the big hit. This time around he beat out an infield single to drive in the go-ahead run.

With two outs and runners at the corners in sixth inning, Witt hit a grounder to the edge of the dirt behind second base, where Jordan Westburg made a diving stop and throw to first. Witt was able to beat the throw to first allowing Kyle Isbel to score from third.

It was the second consecutive day in which the American League batting champ provided the big hit. Witt’s RBI single in the series opener scored the only run in KC’s win on in game one. Kansas City’s bullpen was fabulous again in support of starter Seth Lugo who didn’t make it out of the 5th innning. Lucas Erceg earned the save for a second straight day.

The series win is a big bounce back for the Royals who endured two seven-game losing streaks over the final month of the season. They now advance to face the AL East champion New York Yankees. Game one is Saturday in the Bronx.
