SARGENT – An effort has begun to hold a recall vote against four of the six members of the Sargent Board of Education.

Board President Martin Riddle, Vice President Loyd Pointer and board members Tammera Moody and Laura Kipp are the targets of the recall effort. The board has faced significant blowback from the community and many faculty and staff members after the surprising move earlier this year not to retain Cory Grint as principal.

In the filings the petitions’ principal circulator, JacE Coslor, called Grint’s termination “unjust and illegal”. Coslor accused the board members of promoting personal agendas without consulting the superintendent or legal counsel.

Each of the board members will have until mid-August to submit rebuttal statements to the County Clerk’s office. After those statements have been submitted the petitions can begin circulation.

Custer County Clerk Constance Gracey said each petition will require at least 95 verified signatures of registered voters within the Sargent school district to trigger an election. Recall supporters will have 30 days to collect signatures from the time they receive the petitions.
