Pivots run in the Nebraska Panhandle as dryness persists | Fridays in the Field

Despite much of Nebraska getting drought relief this year, the Panhandle has not received the same moisture.

Consequently, producers are already irrigating before June.

Andy Groskopf grows corn and Great Northern beans near Scottsbluff, most of which is irrigated.

“Right now, there’s a lot of pivots running [and] not much gravity irrigation going on now because the crops are too small to ditch,” he said. “We could really use a rain because we’re not all pivot-irrigated here.”
