KEARNEY – Make it four straight years that the Overton Eagles have won the Fort Kearny Conference volleyball tournament, sweeping Ansley-Litchfield 25-14, 25-16 , 25-15 Thursday night. Amherst held off Pleasanton 25-11, 25-22, 25-12 to take third in the tournament.

The championship match pitted the top seed Overton against the sixth seeded Ansley-Litchfield Spartans who previously knocked off the three and two seeds. With an eye on knocking off the top seed, Ansley-Litchfield had a fast start in all three sets, grabbing early leads. Eventually, Overton would settle in and thwart any threat by using a quick offense and key defensive game play. The Eagles had success at the service line with nine ace serves. A balanced overall game saw Daisy Ryan lead Overton with 15 kills. Gracen Hughes chipped in nine kills and two ace serves. In the Spartan loss, self inflicted errors proved costly, including eight service errors. Kerry Ryan shined with a team high 14 kills for Ansley-Litchfield. Madie Loy added five kills. It’s the fourth straight conference tournament championship for Overton and the first runner-up for the Spartans since joining the FKC.

In the third place match, Amherst used a balanced game to handle Pleasanton, holding off every comeback attempt by the Bulldogs. Amherst stifled the Pleasanton offense from getting any traction by not allowing any Bulldogs in double digit kills. Meanwhile two separate Broncos finished in double digit kills. Amherst was led by Keelie Hagan’s 11 kills and Libby Mitchell added 10 kills. As a team, the Broncos had seven kills. In the loss, Cadence Dixon led Pleasanton with seven kills. The Bulldogs finished with three ace serves, but errors bit them in every set, including finishing with five service errors.
