OVERTON – The Overton Eagles football team made the playoffs for the first time since 2019 last year, and with many key returners back, Overton is looking to continue to build on the forward momentum of the program.

Overton returns five starters on offense, and four on defense from the team that went 4-5 last year. One of the key returners is quarterback Hayden Muirhead who had a big year last year, throwing for 568 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 566 yards with 10 touchdowns. Now junior running back Dawsen McCarter is also back after rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore in 2023. On defense, senior Tripp Davenport will continue to be a force at linebacker after having 118 tackles, 12 for loss last season. Muirhead was also a key contributor on defense with 60 tackles and two interceptions last year. Senior Jace Jeffries returns on the offensive line, while also having 70 tackles and one sack on defense last season.

Head coach Marcus Harvey says his team has continued to get better from the end of last year to early parts of this year at throwing the ball and will need to be consistent to have success. He spoke with KRVN’s Jon Willis.

Overton will begin the 2024 campaign on August 30th at home vs Axtell.
