NSP SWAT Team responds to Pleasant Dale residence

On Monday, September 23, 2024, at approximately 3:30 am the Seward County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a possible hostage situation at the corner of Cedar St and 5th St in Pleasant Dale, NE.

Upon arrival on scene, Seward County Deputies were able to get the female hostage released from the residence unharmed. Once the female was released, the male, who was the sole occupant of the residence at this time, barricaded himself inside the home with a weapon. After several unsuccessful attempts were made to remove the male from the residence, Nebraska State Patrol’s SWAT was deployed. A short time after NSP SWAT arrived, the barricaded male was taken into custody without incident.

Trenton C. Engel, 34, Pleasant Dale, NE was turned over to the Seward County Sheriff’s Office. A search of the residence was executed by members of the sheriff’s office. Multiple firearms and several rounds of ammunition were seized and secured as evidence.

Engel was booked into the Seward County Detention Center for the following charges. Domestic Assault, False Imprisonment, Possessing a Firearm While Committing a Felony, and Obstructing a Peace Officer.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Seward Police Department, Pleasant Dale Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Seward Memorial Health Care Systems, and Crete ALS.
